(Red Deer, Alberta) – The City of Red Deer is pleased to announce the Stang family as the winner of the June is Recreation and Parks Month contest. They were chosen based on their submission to the contest which detailed their use of the Waskasoo Parks system, and how they feel their physical and emotional well-being has benefited from walking the trail system.
Throughout the month of June, Red Deerians had a chance to share how recreation, parks, and culture opportunities affect their lives for a chance to win a recreation and parks prize package worth $1,000. The responses from citizens showed a variety of ways in which the parks and recreation facilities in Red Deer are essential to personal health, provide a foundation for quality of life, and build strong families and healthy communities.
Coordinated by the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) and supported by The City of Red Deer, June is Recreation and Parks Month promoted recreation, parks, and culture throughout the month of June.
“We are thrilled with the responses we received from Red Deerians detailing how the recreation, parks and culture opportunities have made a difference in their lives,” said Greg Scott, Recreation, Parks & Culture Manager with The City. “With the opening of the revitalized G.H. Dawe Centre, the continuing expansion of the parks system, and the Fall Activity Guide being delivered to residents today, there are plenty of options available for residents to engage in recreation, parks and culture opportunities.”
June is Recreation and Parks Month is an initiative spearheaded by the ARPA, a provincial not-for-profit charitable association that is dedicated to promoting the benefits and development of recreation and parks throughout Alberta communities.
