(Red Deer, Alberta) – On July 21 The City of Red Deer submitted an application to the province of Alberta for funding through the Disaster Recovery Program, in relation to the severe weather experienced in Red Deer on July 12 and 13. Currently, The City is waiting for confirmation on the status of this application, and this confirmation may take a number of weeks.
While residents are no longer being asked to contact The City if they have experienced flooding, citizens who have incurred non-insurable damage are encouraged to take the following steps:
- contact their insurance provider immediately. If damage is not covered, request a letter stating that the damage is non-insurable. This letter will be required for a homeowner to submit a claim to the Disaster Recovery Program, if it becomes available for Red Deer residents. Please do not forward these letters to The City.
- document all actions taken in relation to flooding – take pictures, keep receipts and list damaged property.
The City reminds residents that it is important to begin clean-up and restoration efforts immediately in order to prevent any health or safety concerns, and further damage to property and contents. For information about flood restoration, refer to Alberta Health Services.
Tenants and landlords with concerns regarding the condition and habitability of a rental property can contact Environmental Public Health toll free at 1-877-360-6366.
If The City’s application to the Disaster Recovery Program is approved by the province, additional information will be made available at www.reddeer.ca about what steps residents must take in order to submit formal claims for funding.
For information related to flood restoration and recovery, visit the Alberta Emergency Management Agency or City of Red Deer.
