Permit values increasing as the year progresses

August 3, 2010

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Year-to-date single family permit values are up approximately 40 per cent from this time last year. Last year showed $24 million in permit values while 2010 already shows $33.5 million in single-family housing starts. Multi-family development permit values remain below last year by approximately 50 per cent.

The issuance of a building permit to Timcon Construction for the Ronald McDonald House valued at $6.2 million helped boost permit values for July. The Ronald McDonald House focuses on helping families in need by providing housing while children are hospitalized.

“It was really great to see this permit issued, now Central Albertans can look forward to a beautiful facility being constructed with the opening in 2011,” said Joyce Boon, Manager of the Inspections & Licensing department.

Increase in commercial development is also evident over the past few months. A building permit valued at $2.2 million was issued to Keller Construction for the redevelopment of the downtown Husky site at 4505 49 Avenue.

Monthly permit statistics will be posted on The City’s website at www.reddeer.ca/inspections
