Rotary Clock to receive new clock faces
August 13, 2010
(Red Deer, Alberta) – The 20 foot stately clock on Ross Street, donated to the City of Red Deer by the Rotary Club of Red Deer in 2007, has developed a unique problem. Two of the four clock faces have bent slightly creating a drag effect on the clock hands, thus putting the clock out of time. Despite The City having numerous clock resets done, the problem persists.
“The corner of Ross Street and 49 Avenue is a high traffic area and many people have reported the clock’s incorrect time,” said Mayor Morris Flewwelling. “Although we have attempted to fix the clock, the manufacturer has indicated that the best way forward is for the manufacturer to complete onsite repairs and replace all four faces of the clock.”
“This clock is very important to the community,” said Phil Pattison, President of the Rotary Club of Red Deer. “It highlights both the citizen and young person of the year, and is a wonderful feature of our downtown. We owe it to the outstanding citizens featured on the clock to have the issue corrected as soon as possible.”
The American manufacturer is scheduled to send a technician to Red Deer in September to complete the necessary repairs. In the meantime, the clock will have its power disconnected and the time will be set to midday. It is anticipated the clock will be in working order by the end of September.
