Draft Environmental Master Plan goes to City Council
December 13, 2010
(Red Deer, Alberta) –The latest draft of the Environmental Master Plan (EMP) went to City Council this afternoon giving the opportunity for both new and returning Council members to review its development. Council was brought up to speed on all the work that has been done over the last year by City administration and contractor Halsall Associates.
“We have come a long way since Council approved the Situation Assessment on July 26,” said Lauren Maris, Project Lead. “The draft plan we have today looks at both municipal and community actions that are possible through teamwork between The City and residents. By bringing this draft to Council we can ensure the EMP is going in the right direction and bring it back to the community for their input.”
Halsall has worked with The City of Red Deer to create this draft tailored to residents and Red Deer as a community. If Council agrees with the direction of the plan, The City can continue to present it to various City departments and the public, to gather their feedback and ideas. The Environmental Master Plan will help shape an environmentally conscious community that all Red Deerians can be a part of.
The EMP will guide The City’s decisions as we take action to shape our community’s environmental future. The final plan will be presented to Council in the first quarter of 2011.
