Pedestrian plaza focuses on creating community

February 26, 2010

(Red Deer, Alberta) – A commemorative pedestrian plaza is slated to go up in downtown Red Deer, but first The City wants to know what you think at an open house on March 2.

The open house will be held:

        Date:         Tuesday, March 2, 2010
        Time:         6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
        Location:   Crimson Star Meeting Room
City Hall - 4914 48 Avenue (access via the west doors of City Hall)

The proposed pedestrian plaza, which will be located between Gaetz Avenue and 49 Avenue on Ross Street, considers preserving the heritage value of the Cenotaph while creating a useable public space.

City staff and consulting team IBI Group will be available at the open house to discuss the proposed plans for the plaza, which include everything from benches to landscaping and streetscaping. The City will also explore opportunities associated with a bicycle lane on Ross Street and consider traffic flow and movement in the area.

The open house will give Red Deerians an opportunity to find out more about the proposed plaza and give feedback on their likes and dislikes about the design.
