(Red Deer, Alberta) – As residential snow plowing is just over a week from completion, The City is reminding parents that children should not play on or around snow windrows and snow piles. Also, the public is advised to be aware of children in proximity to the roadways around these windrows and snow piles.
In the 2009/2010 winter season, windrows will be placed in front of odd numbered addresses. The next time a general residential plowing occurs, whether it is next year or a future year, the windrows will be placed in front of even numbered addresses.
“We understand that the windrows and snow piles are an inconvenience, but it is the best option available to us right now,” said Jim Chase, Roads Superintendant. “If we were to remove the windrows, the cost would work out to about a one percent tax increase for residents.”
The City has plowed residential streets because severe rutting is starting to develop on residential streets, making it impossible for small vehicles to maneuver. This situation occurs when the temperatures gets close to above freezing levels. It will get worse as we get closer to spring; therefore, this operation is necessary now.
Residents are asked to stay clear of City and contracted workers to maintain everyone’s safety.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
