(Red Deer, Alberta) – Red Deer Transit is now offering Day Passes, an economical new way for transit riders to get around the city. Day passes will allow an individual to ride all day for one low price. On weekends and statutory holidays, the day pass may be used as a family pass, allowing two adults and up to three children aged 6 to 17 years to ride all day on a single pass.
“Our customers have been requesting day passes and we’re really pleased to respond to that request,” said Steve Parkin, Transit Facilities Superintendent. “Because they’re priced lower than three single adult fares, day passes are ideal for anyone who intends to make more than two transit trips in one day.”
Day passes bridge the gap between monthly Go Passes, which allow passholders unlimited trips all month, and single fares, which are the choice for those who use transit sporadically.
“The weekend family pass is a great option for families wanting to attend special events such as Westerner Days, CentreFest and other summer festivals,” said Parkin. “People don’t have to worry about parking, and the cost savings make family outings easier than ever.”
Day passes are also ideal for those wanting to try out Transit for the first time, or explore ways to increase their usage. “People who are concerned about the environment are growing increasingly interested in using alternative transportation,” said Parkin. “Day passes are a great way for individuals to try out the Transit system and see how it can fit into their lifestyle.”
Day passes are priced at $6.50 each. On September 1 the price will increase to $7.00 to align with Transit’s other annual fare increases. Day passes may be purchased in advance and used as needed within the calendar year indicated on the face of the pass. Unused day passes are not refundable.
Day passes are sold at the following Transit ticket sales outlets:
- Bishops Rexall Drugs
- Bower Place Mall
- City Hall Cashiers
- Fas Gas Plus locations
- Neighbours Petro-Canada
- Parkland Mall
- Red Deer College Students Association
