Red Deer's first curbside giveaway weekend

June 2, 2010

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Red Deer residents are invited to take advantage of Red Deer’s first giveaway weekend on June 5 and 6, 2010. Kick it to the curb weekend is a great opportunity to find a new owner for those reusable, unwanted items taking up space in your home and keep them out of our landfill.

The idea of the weekend is to simply place any of your unwanted household items at the curb on your front street marked with FREE signs or stickers, and people can just come and pick up the items that households no longer want.

“The curbside giveaway idea has been a hit in Ottawa for the past three years,” said Janet Whitesell, Waste Management Superintendent with The City of Red Deer. “It has taken off in other municipalities and we are hoping for the same pick up by Red Deerians, it puts a real emphasis on reuse, since one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure.”

It is important to mark the items that are being given away and ensure that any leftover items are removed from the curb by sundown on Sunday, June 6, 2010.
