Signs of improvement in residential development

June 1, 2010

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Residential year-to-date values are up by 45 per cent from last year with a total of 477 permits issued at a value of approximately $33 million. Contributing to these values is the development of new single family home starts. At this time last year slightly fewer permits were issued with a construction value of approximately $23 million.

A permit was issued last month to River City Developments Ltd. at a value of $550,000 for development of a temporary care facility on behalf of Women’s Outreach to be located at 4917 55 Street.

Total building permit values are down when compared to May of 2009 partially because of a major public renovation project that boosted last year’s values up by approximately $2.2 million. This project was for interior renovations to the Aspen Heights School.

Industrial development has increased in value by approximately $1 million due to the increase in renovation projects last month.

Monthly permit statistics will be posted on The City’s website at www.reddeer.ca/inspections
