2010 building permit values continue to show growth

March 1, 2010

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Residential permit values are up by approximately $2.2 million this month, with 76 permits issued at a value of $5.5 million. In comparison, last February there were 53 permits issued at a value of $3.3 million. Contributing to the increased residential statistics this month are semi-detached building projects and single family construction.

Year-to-date building permit values reveal a 17.6% increase from 2009. Total February building values show an approximate 6% increase from 2008 and a 19.7% increase from 2009.

A commercial building permit was issued to Forzani Group Ltd. at a construction value of $350,000 for interior renovations at 300, 5001 19 Street.

The statistics show that the residential housing market is continuing to show growth in the first two months of 2010. “If ongoing development discussions translate into development permits, we should see a strong year in 2010,” said Paul Meyette, Planning Director for The City of Red Deer.

Monthly permit statistics will be posted on The City’s website at www.reddeer.ca/inspections.
