(Red Deer, Alberta) – Due to the unusually dry conditions, Red Deer Emergency Services is reminding the public to be aware of potential fire hazards.
“Although The City is not issuing a formal fire ban, the current conditions are challenging and residents should be more diligent than usual,” said Wes Van Bavel, fire prevention officer.
Local firefighters experienced difficult conditions fighting brush fires throughout the day on Monday and the County of Red Deer issued a fire ban late Monday afternoon.
“Due to the high risk of fires in the city of Red Deer and newly annexed rural areas, residents are reminded that we do have a bylaw that restricts specific burning activities or requires residents to have a permit, “ said Van Bavel. “Resident safety is our first concern and restricting fires is the best way to manage the risk.”
Information about the bylaw or permit process can be found at www.reddeer.ca or by calling 403-346-5511 and asking for Fire Prevention.
