Let's talk Red Deer

March 15, 2010

(Red Deer, Alberta) – Red Deerians can connect with The City in a whole new way after The City launched two new interactive sites this morning - an official City Facebook page, and a Let’s Talk Red Deer forum (www.letstalkreddeer.ca).

“We are committed to keeping people informed and up to date on City news and business no matter what that looks like,” said Charity Dyke, Communications Coordinator for The City of Red Deer. “Everybody accesses information in different ways, and we want to make sure we’re meeting the needs of all Red Deerians when it comes to how they want to hear from us and vice versa.”

People can now follow The City on Facebook by visiting www.reddeer.ca and clicking on the “Follow us on Facebook” link. The City’s Facebook page will be just one more way we keep citizens up to date on everything from environmental initiatives to arts, culture, projects and events in Red Deer.

“Whether you’re at your desk, on the road or in your housecoat at home, you can find out what’s going on in the community,” said Dyke.

The interactive Let’s Talk Red Deer forum (www.letstalkreddeer.ca) will also go live on Monday. It will not replace The City’s website; but focuses on generating conversation about specific City projects and initiatives.

“We know people are busy, and it can sometimes be difficult to get out to an open house or information session. This site gives people an opportunity to chat about specific City projects and participate in the municipal government process,” said Dyke.

Right now, the forum focuses on the River Valley and Tributaries Park Concept Plan. It features pictures, information, and lively discussion about the plan and the process. It gives people an opportunity to find out everything there is to know about the River Valley and Tributaries Park Concept Plan and tell us what they think from the comfort of their own home.

“It’s a parks planning paradise where you can have your say in the future of Waskasoo Park,” said Quincy Brown, Park Planning Coordinator. “We want people to have a hand in how our green space grows, and this interactive Let’s Talk Red Deer forum is just one way we’re doing it.”

People can link to both the Let’s Talk forum and The City’s official Facebook page by visiting us online at www.reddeer.ca, Let’s Talk Red Deer.
