(Red Deer, Alberta) – Tomorrow, four friendly faces will be on downtown streets as The City launches its new ambassador program. Approved by Council on May 17, the pilot program employs four individuals that will promote the downtown to businesses, workers, residents and visitors while providing an increased sense of safety.
“This program is a great way to share what the downtown has to offer to people that are already working or living in the area and will also provide new information to those who are just visiting,” said Charity Dyke, Downtown Coordinator.
The four ambassadors will be easily recognized in red vests and red hats. They will work a variety of shifts throughout the week but will be present during major events, festivals and busy times in the downtown.
Ambassadors will be responsible for the following:
- Sharing information about tourist sites, landmarks and locations of interest, such as the cenotaph, old train station and courthouse, and the ghosts
- Providing information and directions to individuals in the downtown
- Assisting at special events
- Providing information about upcoming events in the downtown
- Sharing information about the locations of businesses in the downtown, such as support facilities, clinics, pharmacies, as well as the farmers’ markets
“As we head into the summer season, events are ramping up, and the ambassadors will be a recognizable face when individuals want to know more about what’s going on,” said Dyke. “They will also be an extra set of eyes on the downtown streets.”
