(Red Deer, Alberta) – National Public Works week is May 16 to 22, when we celebrate the people who keep our city running – the people who work to keep our community clean and safe.
“It gives us an opportunity to recognize employees that help provide and maintain infrastructure and services in Red Deer. They work behind the scenes to make sure citizens have clean water, safe streets and beautiful parks,” said Greg Sikora, Public Works Manager.
“A full year has passed since the move into the new Civic Yards, and our transition into the new yards has been really well received,” said Sikora. “We now have five departments on one site, and Public Works Week celebrates each and every employee from all these departments.”
Those recognized as part of Public Works Week include employees from Public Works, Environmental Services, Electric Light & Power, Parks and Transit. They work to maintain a high quality of community life for Red Deer citizens, but they cannot do it alone, which is why They City also takes this opportunity to recognize citizens for their contribution.
“Citizens make it easy for us to get the job done when they set out their recycling each week, watch out for our buses and passengers or stay safe distances from construction sites. It’s thanks to them that all our employees can continue to seamlessly provide services 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Sikora
