Community associations teaming up to clean up their neighbourhoods
May 12, 2010
(Red Deer, Alberta) – Community associations across Red Deer will be teaming on May 15 and 16 to make their great neighbourhoods even better. As a grand finale to Great Neighbourhoods Week, local community associations have coordinated a neighbourhood-based Green Deer Weekend.
This event is part of the city-wide Green Deer Campaign that began on April 19 and runs until June 20, 2010. Several community associations have planned clean-up activities in their respective neighbourhoods for the weekend. In addition to picking up litter, the associations will also be offering supplies to remove graffiti as one of The City’s early steps toward a potential graffiti strategy.
The neighbourhood-based Green Deer Weekend will wind up Great Neighbourhoods Week on Sunday, May16, with a free BBQ and Dance Party at Bower Ponds from 3 to 5 p.m. KRAZE 101.3 will be on site to host the family friendly-dance party.
“Everyone is welcome to come down and enjoy great food and family-friendly activities as our way of thanking you for keeping our neighbourhoods clean,” said Pauline Mousseau, Neighbourhood Community Development Coordinator with The City. “We’ll also be setting up several booths at the BBQ to showcase resources that can help build great neighbourhoods.”
Green Deer participants are reminded to bring their draw tickets from the clean-up to enter for a chance to win several prizes at the BBQ.
