(Red Deer, Alberta) – Great neighbourhoods are the building blocks of a great city, so to honour these important parts of the community, Mayor Morris Flewwelling has proclaimed May 10 to May 16, 2010, to be Great Neighbourhoods Week.
Bolstering community pride is the main goal of celebrating Great Neighbourhoods Week. As such, several activities have been planned for the week, including a neighbourhood-based clean-up as part of Green Deer, a Great Neighbourhoods BBQ and Dance Party, and the launch of the Great Neighbourhoods Input Survey.
“Great neighbourhoods support and strengthen the quality of life in Red Deer, and we strongly believe that good neighbours help create great neighbourhoods,” said Pauline Mousseau, Neighbourhood Community Development Coordinator with The City. “We hope to promote good neighbour values to create welcoming, engaged, safe, and vibrant neighbourhoods where we live, work, and play.”
Red Deerians are encouraged to participate in the neighbourhood-based Green Deer Weekend happening May 15 and 16 and to attend the free BBQ and Dance Party wrap-up celebration on Sunday, May 16, at Bower Ponds from 3 to 5 p.m. KRAZE 101.3 will be on site to host the family-friendly dance party.
City residents are also encouraged to check out the Great Neighbourhood Input Survey found at www.reddeer.ca/communityassociations. People of all ages will be able to provide feedback on numerous questions related to neighbourhood life from May 10 to June 18. Those who respond will also be able to enter a draw for an Experience Red Deer package valued at $200.
Results from the survey will be released in the fall and shared with numerous groups who care about improving the quality of life in neighbourhoods, such as community associations and City departments.
