Councillor Cindy Jefferies wins AUMA Election

November 25, 2010

The City of Red Deer is proud to announce that Councillor Cindy Jefferies was elected today to the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) board as Director, for Cities up to 500,000.

“I feel very strongly that the voices in cities up to 500,000 need strong and active representation to advocate for our needs, and I couldn’t be more honored to have been elected to the AUMA board to be that voice,” said Councillor Jefferies. “I believe through collaborative relationships we can arrive at better decisions and empower municipalities to achieve their goals.”

Red Deer City Councillors agreed to take on additional responsibilities to not only support Councilor Jefferies, but also give her the additional time needed to fulfill her obligations to AUMA.

“By having a member on the board from Red Deer it increases our advocacy efforts not only for Red Deer, but also the Central Alberta region,” said Jefferies.

The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association was founded in 1905 and represents Alberta’s 284 urban municipalities including cities, towns, villages, summer villages, and specialized municipalities, as well as associate and affiliate members. Our goal is to develop a strong partnership between all three levels of government through a shared vision with long term planning that would facilitate social and economic growth, a strategic and stable funding matrix for capital projects, vital emergency and social services as well as implementation and coordination in the delivery of these services to ensure the sustainability of the Alberta Advantage.
