Temporary Closure of a section of the Wishart Trail within the Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary

November 2, 2010

(Red Deer, Alberta) – A small section of the east loop of the Wishart Trail located within the Gaetz Lake Sanctuary will be temporarily closed as maintenance and repairs occur to erosion resulting from inadvertent overflow caused by hydrant flushing.

The closure is currently in effect and the trail is planned for re-opening on or before Sunday, November 7. The Environmental Services and Recreation, Parks and Culture Departments have partnered to remedy the erosion and remove hazards in the area. Signs, barricades and flagging have been placed on the closed sections of trail; however, Kerry Wood Nature Centre, bird viewing decks and the majority of trails within the sanctuary will remain open to the public.

Hikers are reminded to stay out of all areas where trails and parks have been closed for maintenance in order to ensure their safety and the safety of workers. Thank you for your patience and co-operation.
