Give us your opinion on Red Deer’s environmental future
October 7, 2010
(Red Deer, Alberta) – Red Deerians are invited to give their opinions on targets and actions suggested in The City of Red Deer’s draft Environmental Master Plan on Tuesday, October 12.
The workshop, hosted by The City of Red Deer’s Environmental Advisory Committee, will feature hands-on activities to gather public input on Red Deer’s environmental future. It will be a forum for residents to hear about the recommended core directions, focus areas and opportunities for action. The workshop will be interactive and fun, and citizens of all ages are encouraged to attend. No environmental experience or knowledge is necessary; people need only bring their opinions and experience as citizens of Red Deer.
Date:
Tuesday, October 12, 2010
Time:
6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Location:
Balmoral Bible Chapel - intersection of Highway 11 (55th Street) and Rutherford Dr
Input from citizens was used to create the vision and core directions for the plan, which were adopted by Council on July 26. The City now wants residents’ opinions on how to achieve that vision. “Environmental issues affect everyone in the city including businesses, residents, youth and community groups,” says Lauren Maris,Environmental Program Specialist . "Community input is absolutely key to creating an Environmental Master Plan that is meaningful to the citizens of Red Deer.”
The Environmental Master Plan is being developed as part of The City’s Strategic Plan, which is committed to develop a Municipal Sustainability Framework. The Environmental Master Plan will define clear priorities, targets and strategies to achieve a 25-year vision for Red Deer’s environmental future, thereby acting as the environmental pillar of that Framework.
