Repairs to Rotary Clock delayed
October 19, 2010
(Red Deer, Alberta) – Plans have been delayed to complete repairs to the Rotary Clock on the corner of Ross Street and 49 Avenue. Earlier in the summer, plans were confirmed with the American manufacturer of the Rotary Clock to send a technician to Red Deer in September. Since then, the manufacturer has gone bankrupt and is unable to complete the necessary repairs.
“This is very disappointing news for The City, the Rotary Club and residents,” said Charity Dyke, Downtown Coordinator. “We will work quickly to find another vendor that might be able to complete the repairs and get the clock working once again.”
The clock has had the power disconnected and the time set to midday since early summer. The City and the Rotary Club of Red Deer will be seeking out new vendors to assess the clock, provide the necessary materials and come on site to complete the repairs.
The 20 foot stately clock on Ross Street, donated to the City of Red Deer by the Rotary Club of Red Deer in 2007, needs to have all four faces of the clock remade and installed.
“This clock is very important to the community,” said Phil Pattison, President of the Rotary Club of Red Deer. “It highlights both the citizen and young person of the year, and is a wonderful feature of our downtown. We owe it to the outstanding citizens featured on the clock to have the issue corrected as soon as possible.”
