Unofficial 2010 Election highlights for Red Deer
October 19, 2010
(Red Deer, Alberta) – For the 2010 Municipal Election, Red Deer saw an increased voter turnout from the 2007 election with 24.8 per cent of Red Deerians hitting the polls. Out of the eligible 59, 941 voters, 14,862 people cast their ballots on Monday.
“The level of voters varied significantly from one station to another in Red Deer, we know that some voting stations experienced line ups at peak voting times, while other stations were a bit slower,” said Elaine Vincent, Returning Officer. “Over the next few days we will be conducting a review of our voting stations and the traffic each one experienced to ensure that this is incorporated into the election planning in the future.”
The highest volumes of voters were recorded at St. Elizabeth Seton School with 1329 voters. The highest percentage of eligible voters per voting station was GW Smith Elementary School, with 40 per cent of eligible voters casting a ballot. The lowest volume of voters at a polling station was 181 voters at Grandview Elementary School, while the lowest percentage of eligible voters per voting station was Glendale Middle School with 12 per cent of electors casting their ballots.
