City offers free spay/neuter clinic for dogs

December 22, 2011

Local dog owners can apply to have their dog spayed or neutered for free, as part of a project approved by City Council in 2005. Two dollars from each dog tag sold in 2011 funds a dog spay / neuter clinic.

The City of Red Deer, in conjunction with the Red Deer and District SPCA and Alberta Animal Services, offers the program to residents to help control the over population of dogs in Red Deer.
Citizens wishing to apply for the clinic must fill out and submit an application form to Inspections & Licensing by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012. Citizens applying must have a 2012 dog license in order to apply. Only one fully completed application form will be accepted for each licensed dog. Applications cannot be submitted online.

Application forms are available at the following locations:

  • Online at www.reddeer.ca/inspections
  • City Hall Cashiers (Main floor, City Hall)
  • SPCA (4505 77 Street)
  • Alberta Animal Services (4640 61 Street)

As a result of the limited funds for the program, not all applications will be successful. If your application is successful, you will be contacted by March 19, 2012, and you must make arrangements for the procedure to be performed by no later than May 25, 2012.
