City to host public Open House for Gaetz Avenue Revitalization
January 10, 2011
The City of Red Deer has approved a streetscape revitalization project for Gaetz Avenue downtown, and further public input is needed for a proposed change from a two-way to one-way flow of traffic between 49 Street and Ross Street.
The proposed change reflects comments received from residents and businesses during the consultation process last summer and is supported by The City’s Greater Downtown Action Plan Committee. Changing the flow of traffic between 49 Street and Ross Street will provide continuity on the roadway and it is not expected to have an impact on the number of parking spots available on this stretch of Gaetz Avenue.
The project will begin in 2011 and will enhance the streetscape within the Historic Downtown to create a vibrant, dynamic and walkable environment. The overall design for Gaetz Avenue creates an opportunity to highlight the historical importance of the avenue and realize its contemporary potential as a dynamic public space with enhanced pedestrian experience, vehicle movement, aesthetics and amenities.
Red Deerians have the opportunity to review the design concept, ask questions, and provide their feedback into the proposed change at the public open house.
