Crack sealing on city roads
July 28, 2011
Contractors for The City’s Public Works department are currently crack sealing city roads between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., seven days a week.
High traffic intersections and streets will be completed between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. or on Sunday when there are reduced traffic volumes. Weather permitting, work is expected to be completed on Tuesday, August 2, 2011.
A map of the roads to be crack sealed can be found on The City’s website at
www.reddeer.ca
.
Crack sealing is an application of a rubberized oil product to seal cracks in asphalt pavement. This seal extends the life of the pavement and prevents water from entering the asphalt and road base.
‘No Parking’ signs will be set out on the roads to be crack sealed a minimum of 12 hours before work begins. Citizens are requested to watch for these signs in their areas. After the crack sealing is complete, the ‘No Parking’ signs will remain until street sweeping is completed. Vehicles left parked on signed roads will be ticketed and towed.
Citizens are asked to stay a safe distance from the machinery, to obey construction signs, and to slow down when passing maintenance workers. The patience and cooperation of motorists is much appreciated.
