Leash your dogs for safety
March 31, 2011
Red Deer residents are reminded all dogs must be on a leash while off the owner’s property.
Regulations are in place to protect citizens, animals and property. “We have a beautiful park system that is utilized by all types of users. We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy all of our parks safely”, said Steve Davison, Parks Amenities Supervisor.
The public is reminded that dogs are not permitted off leash at any of our park nodes, such as Heritage Ranch, Bower Ponds, River Bend and Mackenzie Trails. Three Mile Bend and The Oxbows Off Leash Dog Park are the only exception areas where owners can remove the leash, but they must ensure pets remain in their control (i.e. are within calling distance).
Dog owners are also reminded that dogs are not permitted in picnic areas such as Rotary Park and Kiwanis Park.
Dog owners not complying with The City’s Parks Bylaw may be subject to fines starting at $100 for the first offence. For more information, visit
