City of Red Deer launches Webcasting of Council Meetings
September 19, 2011
City Council is about to conduct its first Council meeting using an electronic agenda on Monday, September 19. Council and staff will work through the agenda at the upcoming Council meeting utilizing individual computers. The agenda including supporting documents is accessible from the City’s website
www.reddeer.ca
.
This service, available on the City’s website, allows residents to watch video, hear audio, and view the decisions of council. It also provides easy access to City Council meetings as they are happening. Council Members can now vote electronically and a visual of the vote outcome is displayed for all viewers. Once the meeting is complete, everything will be archived on the website for future access.
"Council is excited to make the switch to this new technology; this change will improve the accountability and transparency of Council decision making,” said Elaine Vincent, Legislative and Governance Services Manager. “Also this new technology will ultimately reduce the City’s photocopying and paper costs, and continues our commitment to being good environmental stewards.”
To ensure ease of access, the City is also launching its publicly available wireless network which will be piloted in City Hall starting Monday, September 19.
E- Agenda has proved to be an extremely effective process and system for council meetings in other municipalities.
