Grab your shoes, Red Deer, and take a walk

September 16, 2011

So what do you think about walking in our parks and trails, in your neighbourhood, or on our city streets? To make our city more pedestrian friendly we want to hear from Red Deerians.

Join us September 22, 2011 for a community workshop with international experts and give us your ideas on how we can make walking in Red Deer better for everyone.

The City has partnered with Alberta Health Services to bring the Alberta Walkability Roadshow to Red Deer. The goal of this roadshow is to support change in the community that improves walkability and encourages citizens to choose to walk.

“The Roadshow and other events we have planned as part of the Integrated Movement Study will form the foundation as we transform our city,” said Divisional Strategist Jim Jorgensen. “Hosting this AHS sponsored event at Executive Place is a great opportunity to see and hear a different perspective of Red Deer so come up to the 11th floor and tell us what moves you.”

The Walkability Roadshow is coming to Red Deer as part of the Integrated Movement Study to look at how Red Deerians move in the city, and how we want to move and live as we continue to grow. The City will engage residents, community groups and key stakeholders to understand what they think about bicycling, taking transit, walking and driving in the city and how we plan for what will move us in the future.

September 22 is also World Car Free Day so walk away from the wheel and take advantage of the free transit offered by The City.
