Kay Kenny was awarded the prestigious ARPA Merit Award for her significant contributions to ARPA through recreation or parks development in Alberta. Kay is a strong advocate for the recreation and parks field at the provincial, municipal, and community levels. Actively involved as a leader, builder, and energetic volunteer with ARPA, Kay always finds time to support the field and the people it represents. She believes strongly in the vision and goals of ARPA, and continues to advocate for the development and implementation of strategies that will position ARPA as a provincial leader.
Dedicated Chief Administrative Officer Award To: Norbert Van Wyk, City Manager (2007) Awarding Organization: Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) and the Society of Local Government Managers
Norbert Van Wyk was recognized for his long-term excellence and dedication to municipal government and chief administrative management with this annual joint award from AUMA and the Society of Local Government Managers. Norbert was an exemplary leader for The City of Red Deer, as we experienced large scale growth as an organization and a municipality.

Barry Brookes was awarded the Red Deer Advocate 2001 Coach of the Year award. Barry coached Andy's Trucking Chiefs to the Alberta Atom AA hockey championships and led the Dick's Auto Braves Mosquito AAA baseball team to victory as well.
Red Deer Minor Hockey Commission Annual Builder Award

Project/Initiative: For his contribution to Red Deer Minor Hockey and for serving on the Board of Directors of the Red Deer Athletic Association, for the past 15 years
In 1997, Harold Jeske was presented with the Red Deer Minor Hockey Commission Annual Builder Award. This award recognizes the efforts, honesty and good sportsmanship contributed to Red Deer Minor Hockey. Harold served as trainer, manager and coach at the Midget A level from 1968 to 1972, and coached the Bantam AAA Moose Chiefs from 1975 to 1990. Under his leadership, the teams captured six provincial titles as well as a gold, silver and two bronze medals at the Western Canada Championships. Harold also served on the Red Deer Athletic Association Board of Directors for 15 years.

In 1994, Alan was honoured with the President's Award at the 26th Annual Professional Development Conference of the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC). The EDAC aims to enhance the professional competence of economic development officers and ensure placement of qualified people in the field of economic development. This is only the second time this award has been presented in the 26-year history of the Association, and the first time it has been awarded to an individual!

In 1994, The Technical Council of Transportation Association of Canada appointed Ken Haslop to serve as a full-voting member and to represent smaller Canadian cities. Ken was also on the Urban Practice Design Project Committee for a three-year term. The Committee was established for the purpose of producing a Canadian urban geometric design practice document that would be used in cities across Canada.
Lieutenant Governors Award for Excellence in Public Administration in Alberta

The Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAX) selected Michael Day as the 1993 recipient of the Lieutenant Governors Award for Excellence in Public Administration in Alberta. This is the highest honour bestowed upon an individual working in the public sector in the province. The Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) is a private non-profit organization that enables public servants from all spheres of government, as well as others interested in public administration, to exchange ideas on trends, practices and innovations in public administration.

Lowell Hodgson was named president of the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (APRA) at the1992 annual meeting. The ARPA is a provincial, non-profit charitable organization, with several members representing thousands of Albertans across the province. Members of ARPA include community and public recreation agencies, educators, and corporate, elected, lay and student members. During his time as president, Lowell's responsibilities included helping unite advocates of recreation and parks province wide into a proactive and effective force for building healthy citizens, communities and living environments in Alberta.
