In February of 2000, Shelley Ross received a service medal at the Lifesaving Society's inaugural ceremony. The service medal is a Commonwealth Society Medal and Certificate recognizing four years of active meritorious service. In order to qualify, recipients must be an instructor, an examiner, a branch officer or a committee member. Shelley is an active bronze examiner, NLS and AEC instructor/examiner. Her work over the past years indicates her dedication and commitment toward drowning prevention.

Recreation, Parks and Culture won the Royal Canadian Life Saving Class II Affiliate Award in 1995. This award is presented to the municipality, serving an area with a population of less than 100,000, who has conducted the most lifesaving society programs. Steve Sogge was also recognized for 13 years of volunteer work and received a Royal Canadian Lifesaving Medal for his long time service to the Lifesaving Society.

Steven Sogge was awarded the Bar To The Service Medal for more than 10 years of meritorious service with the Royal Lifesaving Society of Canada. Steve served as chairman of a number of different committees and provided leadership for both provincial and national lifesaving initiatives.

The City of Red Deer was the 1992 recipient of the Class 11 Award from the Royal Life Saving Society of Canada (Alberta & North West Territories branch) for having the highest point total in conducting the RLSSC Program. The Lifesaving Society in Alberta, a national charitable organization, was established in 1926 to improve public safety by working to prevent drowning and water-related injuries through lifeguard and lifesaving training, safety management standards and services, and public education. The Society responds to needs in Alberta and the Northwest Territories through drowning and injury prevention and lifesaving sport initiatives.
