Sport Administrator of the Year
To: Jerry Tennant, Athletics Programmer II - Recreation, Parks & Culture (2004)
Awarding Organization: Special Olympics Alberta

Jerry has been volunteering for Special Olympics for the past 22 years in many varied capacities, and in all cases he performed outstandingly. Thus, the Alberta Special Olympics awarded him with the Sport Administrator of the Year Award at the Alberta Annual Conference in October 2004. He contributes many hours of his off time to support the programs and willingly participates on committees and at workshops to better the Special Olympics in Alberta and Red Deer. He is the driving force in creating an atmosphere within the Red Deer Affiliate of being the "Best that One Can Be".


Distinguished Service Award

To: Michael Dawe, Archivist (2002)

Awarding Organization: Canadian Association of Fair & Exhibitions

 

In 2002, Michael Dawe was presented with a Distinguished Award for his 20 plus years of volunteer work with the Westerner Exposition Association. As a member of the Archives Committee, Michael co-authored the centennial history book, was a member of the board of Directors, as well as a member and incoming chair of the Volunteer and Membership Committee.


Recognition

Awarding Organization: The City of Red Deer

Project/Initiative: Volunteers

 

For the 2001 International Year of the Volunteer The City of Red Deer recognized the many staff who took time out of their schedules to serve the community. Information gathered in 2000 demonstrated that 92 City employees volunteered 16,779 hours of their time to the community.

 

Employee Mercury Award

To: City of Red Deer Employees (1999)

Awarding Organization: The United Way of Central Alberta

Project/Initiative: Contributions to the Community Through Support for the 1999 United Way Campaign

 

The United Way of Central Alberta presented The City of Red Deer employees with the Employee Mercury Award for their contributions to the community through their effort and support during the 1999 United Way campaign. Contributions made by City employees increased by 40% from the previous year. The effort put forth by City employees contributed in the United Way surpassing their campaign target by more than $125,000.

 

Red Deer College Community Service Award of Excellence

Project/Initiative: In Recognition for his demonstrated support of Red Deer College and Jerry's dedication to the community

 

In the fall of 1995, the Red Deer College recognized Jerry Tennant with a Red Deer College Community Service Award of Excellence. This award is in recognition for his demonstrated support of Red Deer College over the past 23 years. Jerry served on the Kevin Sirois Centre Board since 1972, acting as a community liaison and providing municipal input and leadership.

 

Award of Recognition Badge

Awarding Organization: Commonwealth Council of The Royal Life Saving Society Canada

Project/Initiative: Outstanding Voluntary Services to the Society

 

In 1993, the Lifesaving Society presented Eva Campeau with the Commonwealth Council of the Royal Lifesaving Society Canada – Award of Recognition Badge for her outstanding voluntary services. The Lifesaving Society is a national, non-profit, voluntary organization that has been training swimmers to be lifesavers and lifeguards since 1908. The Society is dedicated to the prevention of water-related incidents and to life-saving initiatives in aquatic environments across Canada.
