On Friday, January 15, 2010, Red Deer hosted the 78th day of the Olympic Torch Relay. Countless volunteer hours in planning and execution mad it possible for approximately 15,000 party goers to enjoy an evening of fun and celebration.
Mayor Morris Flewelling best summed up the experience by saying “The torch relay gave us an exciting opportunity to support our local Olympians and to provide Red Deerians with a very real connection to the Olympics. It was definitely a barn burner—a night to remember”.
