"Over the last number of years, the Red Deer Region has experienced strong residential, industrial and commercial growth," said Bryon Jeffers, Director of Development Services, The City of Red Deer. "In order to manage and plan for continued strong growth in the future, The City is updating its Growth Study, which was last reviewed in 1999 to 2000."
The 2004 Growth Study takes into consideration changes and new trends that have developed since the last study was completed four years ago. The updated study will help provide direction for where, when and how The City should develop land over the next 50 years.
"Proper planning is critical to the continued success of our city and region," said Jeffers. "It's important to be informed and prepared so that we can guide development in a healthy, viable and sustainable manner."
Information contained in the 2004 Growth Study includes:
- Population and growth forecasts for the 90,000, 115,000 and 160,000 thresholds;
- Current and expected residential, industrial, and commercial land absorption rates;
- Expected future residential, industrial, commercial, public service and open space land needs for the next 50 years; and
- Targeted growth sectors around the city for residential, commercial and industrial use including land currently outside city boundaries.
The public will have the opportunity to explore displays, talk with members of The City's project team and provide feedback.
The open house will take place:
Date: Thursday, November 25
Time: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Location: Snell Auditorium, Red Deer Public Library, 4818 – 49 Street
