Using Portable Document File (PDF) format

Many of the documents that are available on The City of Red Deer's site are in the  Portable Document File (PDF) format as indicated by the PDF icon (  Download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free  ).

In order to view PDF files, you must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader program installed.

Many browsers come with Adobe Acrobat Reader already installed. To see if you have the program, simply click on a document that is preceded by the PDF icon ( Download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free ), and the file may open for you.

If you are unable to open the document, you will need to download the Reader. This is a free program with simple installation procedures.

Downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader:

  1. Click on the Get Adobe Acrobat Reader  button to open Adobe's site in a separate window. (The  button is seen throughout our site where Acrobat is required for viewing PDF files.)
  2. Complete
  3. their online registration form.
  4. Save
  5. the program file to your computer.
  6. Install
  7. the program by double-clicking on the file you saved.
  8. Restart
  9. your computer and browser as directed.

Viewing and printing PDF documents:

After Adobe Acrobat Reader has been installed and you click on a link to a PDF file, the Acrobat Reader will load inside your browser and display the file automatically. From here you can click on the printer icon that appears in the Adobe program to print the document. All PDF documents on The City of Red Deer's site are indicated by the Download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free  icon.

Saving/downloading PDF documents to your computer:

The PDF documents can be downloaded to your computer from our site for reference purposes or if you have problems viewing it in your browser.

To save the document, click on the Save icon (floppy disk image) that appears along the top of the Adobe Acrobat Reader's viewing window (usually below your browser's address bar) and save it to a location on your computer.

To open the PDF file on your own computer later, you need only double click on the file to read it in the Reader you have installed.
