Crime Prevention Signage Pilot

The City of Red Deer is looking for local crime prevention organizations to partner with for an upcoming signage pilot program.

The purpose of the pilot program is to bring awareness to local community crime prevention agencies, gauge demand of signage, determine the effectiveness of locations and explore the costing options of permanent information signs.

The City of Red Deer will be erecting two signs for the project. The crime prevention signs will be in place as a pilot project for one year, beginning in spring 2011. They are municipally owned signs, and the content of the signs will be determined by The City of Red Deer based on an application process involving specific criteria.

Criteria for sign participation:

  • Organization must be a community not for profit
  • Organization must be actively involved in crime prevention in the community; organizations having ties to a national crime prevention program/association is an asset.
  • Organization must have broad community participation in their crime prevention approach

Availability of space on the sign:

  • the sign size will be a total of 4 x 8 feet and may have space available for a maximum of four (4) crime prevention organizations to be included
  • there may be less than four (4) organizations posted to the sign
  • a rough estimation of average available space per organization would be about 2.5 x 2 feet (5 square feet)
  • the layout of the sign and the agencies included will be determined by available design space and the content of the applications, and are at the sole discretion of The City of Red Deer

Participation in the Sign Pilot:

Organizations who wish to participate in the project are required to complete a brief application form. Decisions for content of the sign will be made based on the applications and the available space on the sign itself.
