Crime Prevention & Policing Review 2011

Everyone wants a safe community and crime prevention is everyone’s business. And that’s why we want to hear from Red Deer residents and organizations about the strategies that will make our community a better place as we work together.

The City has completed the research and reports for phase 1, 2 and 3 of the Crime Prevention and Policing Review. There is still some consultation work to do, and the final report will be presented to Council September 19, 2011. The executive summary of the report outlines some of the recommendations and strategies for Red Deer. If you would like to request a copy of the full report please contact Christina.Lust@reddeer.ca.

Some of the key finding from the phases of the review are:

  • Red Deer’s overall crime rate has decreased almost 20 per cent from 2004.
  • Red Deerian's feel the city is safe and neighbourhoods are safe; however, there is some anxiety about the downtown area at night.
  • Similar issues and challenges with respect to community safety and security are faced by other similar sized municipalities accross the country.
  • Red Deerians are engaged in, and supportive of, crime prevention initiatives in Red Deer.
