The Red Deer Highland Games Association celebrated their 50 Anniversary in 1997. As part of their celebration, the Association designed a commemorative tartan. In anticipation of the 50 anniversary City Council passed a resolution on November 18, 1996, officially naming the tartan "The City of Red Deer Tartan."The colours selected for the Tartan represents the following:
