We are giving away a limited supply of free outdoor multi-use timers to Red Deer residents. While we suggest using the timers for block heaters, outdoor multi-use timers can also be used with Christmas lights or outdoor patio/landscape lighting. Program participants are welcome to use their timers with any outdoor electric device as long as it is utilized to reduce energy consumption.

What is a block heater timer?

A block heater timer is an automatic device that plugs into an outlet, and the cord from your block heater plugs into it. You can set the timer so your block heater warms up for about 2-3 hours before driving – which is all it needs. Most drivers plug in their block heater overnight which wastes energy and cash. You can save up to $48 per winter by setting a timer instead.

Using a block heater timer can also reduce the time required to run your vehicle before driving as the engine will already be warm. Therefore, save even more by going idle free! Find out how minimizing vehicle idling can save gas, reduce health risks and prolong the life of your vehicle.
