Waste Management Facility School Tours

Classes can tour Red Deer's Waste Management Facility (landfill) by booking guided tours. These tours are linked to the Grade 4 Waste in our World curriculum.

Take a tour of the Waste Management Facility (WMF) to learn about:A fourth grade boy looks through a microscope at the Waste Management Facility's Interpretive Centre.

  • The 3Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle
  • Where your waste goes
  • All the diversion activities at the WMF

Tours are 1.5 hours long. Half the tour takes place in the Interpretive Centre, where there are activities for students to complete. The other half is a tour of the facility, including the diversion pad, compost area, tipping face and household hazardous waste drop-off.

More than 1500 students tour the WMF annually.
