Red Deer RCMP investigate shooting – Update – Arrest made

Red Deer, Alberta – RCMP have charged a Red Deer man with attempted murder after a shooting in the Mountview neighbourhood on August 14 sent a woman to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP identified Joshua Severin as a suspect early in the investigation and issued a warrant for his arrest. Red Deer police officers located Severin in a mobile home in the Creekside Estates Trailer Park on 34 Street the morning of August 19 and arrested him without incident.

23 year old Joshua Christopher Severin faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 239(1)(A.1) – Attempted Murder with a Firearm
  • Criminal Code 85(1)(A) – Using a Firearm to Commit an Indictable Offence
  • Criminal Code 87(1) – Pointing a Firearm
  • Criminal Code 117.01(1) – Possession of a Prohibited Firearm

Severin has been remanded in custody and will make his first appearance in Alberta Provincial Court in Red Deer on August 29 at 9:30 am.

Red Deer RCMP investigate shooting

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP are investigating a shooting in the Mountview neighbourhood on August 14 that sent a woman to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP received a report shortly before noon on August 14 that a woman had been taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and one to the abdomen. The 21 year old victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by acquaintances, where she remains under care.

RCMP conducted a number of neighbourhood interviews and continue to look for witnesses. At this point in the investigation, RCMP believe this incident was targeted in nature.

As part of their ongoing investigation, at 10 am this morning Red Deer RCMP conducted a judicially authorized search warrant on the residence where the shooting occurred, to gather evidence related to the crime. The residence is located in the area of 41 Avenue and 36 Street.
