January 28, 2016 2:27 PM

Red Deer, Alberta – A 20 year old Red Deer man faces a number of charges after he was located in a stolen truck and rammed an RCMP cruiser during an unsuccessful attempt to flee police.

Shortly after 9 am on January 24, Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run on the 67 Street bridge involving a stolen truck. With the assistance of the victim, RCMP located the suspect vehicle in a gas station parking lot on 76 Street and Gaetz Avenue. The driver of the stolen truck accelerated into the driver’s side of a police cruiser that was blocking his exit, disabling the vehicle.

More RCMP members tracked the truck as it drove through the Normandeau and Kentwood neighbourhoods at slow speeds; the truck hit a parked vehicle on Kerr Close and a fence on Kingston Drive before driving into a green space behind Aspen Heights School and getting stuck in the snow. RCMP arrested the driver without further incident. Fortunately, no one was injured in this series of collisions, including the RCMP member whose vehicle was struck.

The truck, a Ford Expedition, had been stolen earlier the same morning from a Lancaster residence.

20 year old Justin David Milley of Red Deer faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 249(1)(a) – Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Criminal Code 249.1(1) – Operation of motor vehicle while pursued by police
  • Criminal Code 259(4) – Driving while disqualified/ prohibited
  • Criminal Code 334(a) – Theft over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 252 – Failure to stop or remain at scene X 4
  • Criminal Code 270(1)(a) – Assault on police officer with weapon

Milley made his first court appearance on January 25 and will appear in Alberta Provincial Court in Red Deer again for election and plea on February 1 at 9:30 am.
