Red Deer RCMP look for suspect in incident with 13 year old girl – Update 1

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP would like to inform the public that the man involved in the incident with a 13 year old girl on May 16 has been identified. RCMP conducted a thorough investigation of the incident, including detailed interviews and a thorough check of the individual, who recognized himself from the media reports and came forward to police by choice. RCMP continue to investigate but, at this time, believe there was no intention to harm the girl and that the incident was the result of misunderstanding. Charges have not been laid at this time.

RCMP thank the public for their assistance in this matter and commend the girl for her response. Police always recommend that anyone who is in a situation where they feel uncomfortable or unsafe should run, call for help, and report the incident. Police take reports of strangers approaching children and youth seriously and investigate them to the fullest extent.

Red Deer RCMP look for suspect in incident with 13 year old girl

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP are looking for witnesses or other public assistance as they investigate the attempted abduction of a 13 year old girl around 7 pm on May 16 in the area of 60 Street and Taylor Drive.

The girl was walking northbound near the Taylor Heights apartment building located near 60 Street and Taylor Drive when she was approached by a man as she crossed an intersection. He attempted to engage her in conversation then grabbed her wrist and demanded that she come with him. The girl kicked him in the shins, broke free and ran. The suspect then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • Approximately 25 years old
  • Approximately 5’6” tall
  • Brown hair
  • Blue eyes
  • Skinnier face with scruffy facial hair
  • Having a spiderweb tattoo on his hand
  • Wearing an oversized jean jacket with the hood up and blue jeans

RCMP are investigating and will release any further information as soon as it is available.
