Red Deer RCMP arrest man for fraud and forgery after cheques stolen

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP have arrested a Red Deer man for fraud and forgery after he cashed cheques that were stolen during a residential break and enter and vehicle theft.

The break-in occurred overnight at a home in Riverside Meadows on March 27, when the suspect entered the home while the occupant slept. The suspect stole a 2016 Subaru, which police recovered three days later in Red Deer. The suspect also stole several cheques at this time; the victim was recently notified by his bank that both cheques had been fraudulently cashed. RCMP quickly identified and located the suspect who had cashed the cheques and took him into custody without incident this morning at his residence.

54 year old Garth Clifford Taylor has been charged with:

  • Criminal Code 380(1)(b) – Fraud under $5,000 X 2
  • Criminal Code 368(1)(a) – Use/ traffic/ possess a forged document X 2

Taylor was also wanted on several outstanding warrants. He will appear in court in Red Deer this morning, May 20, at 9:30 am.
