Red Deer RCMP - UPDATE #2 - Investigation into suspicious package

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances around the discovery of a suspicious package at approximately 4:30 pm Tuesday evening.

City of Red Deer Fire and Emergency Services staff attended the scene, the area was cordoned off to the public, and RCMP evacuated neighbouring businesses as a safety precaution. The RCMP Explosive Device Unit believe that the item was likely a homemade explosive device and neutralized it without incident at approximately 9 pm.

As the investigation is in its preliminary stages, RCMP do not have more information to share with the public at this time. RCMP thank the public for their cooperation in staying clear of the area while the EDU team completed their work and ensured the safety of residents.

Red Deer RCMP investigate suspicious package

Red Deer, Alberta - Red Deer RCMP are asking for public to stay clear of an area as they are currently on scene of a reported suspicious package on 49th avenue in Red Deer.

At approximately 4:30 pm, Red Deer RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious package found in a vehicle at the Key Towing compound at 7627 49 Avenue, Red Deer. The area has been evacuated as a precaution and the scene is being contained by RCMP. The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit has been brought in to assist.

Police are asking for public to be patient and remain away from the evacuated area while the investigation takes place.
