Red Deer RCMP investigate suspicious incident - Update #1

Red Deer, Alberta – At 10:53 a.m. today, the Red Deer RCMP responded to a complaint of a male seen with a firearm in the Highland Green area of Red Deer.

G.H. Dawe School and G.H. Dawe Community Centre were advised by the RCMP and a ‘lockdown’ response was enacted in order to ensure the male did not access those sites.  Residents were encouraged to avoid this area and remain indoors.  The lockdown has since been lifted at both locations.

Red Deer RCMP, including the General Investigation Section and RCMP Police Dog Services surrounded and contained the area, and the male was not located.  It is believed that he may have fled the location in a vehicle prior to police arrival.

The RCMP are no longer containing the Highland Green area and the public can now access that area.

An ongoing investigation is underway in relation to the activities of several people in a residence within that community.

More information will be provided by way of an update, when available.

As the male who allegedly had a firearm has not been located, the RCMP remind the public to remain vigilant in recognizing suspicious persons / activities.  If you see anything or anyone who appears suspicious, don’t approach.  Contact the Red Deer RCMP at (403) 343-5575 or call your local police detachment.
