Green Deer Challenge

The 2018 Green Deer campaign is April 2 until June 3. During this time, volunteers from businesses, community associations, schools, clubs, churches, families and individuals come together to clean up our city.

Registering your Green Deer team

Check back soon to register your team for the 2018 Green Deer campaign.

If you’re cleaning up your neighbourhood or favourite green space, please give us a call. People are encouraged to register so Green Deer organizers can distribute cleaning supplies, track the areas that have been cleaned and recognize volunteer work. Every group to register will automatically be entered into a draw to win a BBQ donated by Canadian Tire and a BBQ event hosted by Real Country 95.5 & ZED 98.9.

Once you register, there are a variety of ways to get involved and have fun:

  • Challenge another group to see who can gather the most trash
  • Register to pick up litter in your own neighbourhood or one of your favourite park areas
  • Sponsor a friendly competition among those in your group and offer a prize
  • Garbage pile pick-up available

If you have collected large amounts of garbage, please notify The City's Community Facilitator at 403-309-8409 to arrange to have your pile picked up. You can also put the Green Deer garbage bags out with your own garbage. You will not be charged for additional garbage.

Green Deer Challenge Toolkit

There’s nothing like a little friendly rivalry to get your Green Deer team working even harder, and having more fun doing it. Who could you challenge? A business rival? A group in your community? An opposing sports team? It could even be as simple as encouraging your neighbours to take part in a 15 minute challenge. The possibilities are endless – the key is to have fun with them.

What are the stakes?

Some common challenges are to see who can pick up the most bags of garbage, log the most time cleaning, or have the most people take part. You choose! And, to make it a little more interesting, you might want to consider extra motivating factors: losers bring coffee or a picnic lunch for the winners, or the losers wear garbage bag shirts for a day – get creative.

The location?

We suggest choosing a location that’s meaningful to you and to the team you’re challenging. Perhaps an area close to your work, a street you live on, or a park you love to use. Your glow of accomplishment will last longer if it’s an area you see regularly.

What’s in it for you?

By participating in the Green Deer program, you will be part of creating a cleaner, healthier community that all citizens of Red Deer will be proud to call home.
