Shelters Services in Red Deer

The City of Red Deer is committed to supporting our vulnerable population though a coordinated housing first approach to social services alongside community agencies and the province. Currently, a temporary shelter is operating out of Cannery Row in the Railyards neighbourhood.

On January 8, 2026 a rezoning application was submitted to The City of Red Deer, by the Red Deer Homeless Foundation, to allow a shelter use on the site located at 7740 40 Avenue.

On February 26, 2026, Red Deer City Council approved the rezoning application for the property located at 7740 40 Avenue, following two days of public hearings.

Temporary Shelter

Currently located in the Cannery Row building (5239 53 Avenue), the temporary emergency shelter is operated by Safe Harbour Society and funded by the Province of Alberta.
