Majority of neighbourhood outdoor skating rinks to open this weekend

Red Deerians will be able to lace up their skates and visit an outdoor rink this weekend.

City crews have been hard at work to ensure most outdoor neighbourhood rinks will be ready for use by Friday, December 16. When community shelter rinks are ready for use the nets will be put out and lights will be turned on.

At this time skating surfaces at Bower Ponds, Bower Place, Mountview, Oriole Park and Grandview remain closed as the ice is not thick enough. Weather permitting these remaining outdoor rinks will open by the end of next week. When natural ice surfaces are safe to use the thin ice warning signs will be removed.

Bower Ponds Pavilion operating hours are:

Regular Schedule
Weekdays, 4:30 to 9 p.m.
Weekends, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Holiday Schedule
December 24 – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
December 25 – Closed
December 26 to 30 - 11a.m. to 4 p.m.
December 31 – 11 to 1 a.m.
January 1 to 8 – 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

We would like to remind everyone that the use of helmets is recommended at all times and that hockey pucks and sticks are not permitted at Bower Ponds or the Recreation Centre Oval.
