The annual Great Neighbourhoods campaign kicks off this month. Residents are encouraged to celebrate their neighbourhoods and the people who live there by taking part in community activities.
“There are so many ways to explore your neighbourhood and connect with neighbours” said Jennifer Reichel, Community and Program Facilitator. “When we get to know our neighbours, we help create a safe, welcoming community that everyone wants to call home.”
The Great Neighbourhoods program provides resources and activities to help people explore their neighbourhood including the Adventures in Belonging Guide and Activ Kidz Neighbourhood Discovery Book. Both guides are available online.
“This program is all about exploring your neighbourhood and promoting ways to do so.” said Reichel. “They can be small things like going for a walk, saying hello to a neighbour or lending out your ladder, or more organized like starting a community garden, holding a neighbourhood clean-up with Green Deer, or hosting a Block Party.”
To encourage residents to get out and know their neighbours the City is once again offering a fifty dollar gift card to the first ten people to book a Block Party between May and September this year. The gift card can be put toward the cost of food and party supplies. Register your Block Party and you will also receive free use of the Block Party Games Kit featuring ladderball, bean bag toss, frisbees, potato sacks and much more! To book a Block Party call 403-314-5910 or email email@example.com.
