With Building Permits in 2016 estimated at $247,451,590, the total value of permits exceeded 2015 by nearly $15 million.

The sectors with the strongest showing were the commercial and public sectors. The value of commercial permits last year more than doubled that of 2015, with permits valued at nearly $82 million compared to $31 million in 2015. Public sector permits last year totalled $112 million compared to $91 million in 2015.

Residential permit values continued to lag throughout the year, with total values estimated at $44 million in 2016. Industrial values were significantly lower in 2016, with values estimated at $8.7 million compared to nearly $35 million in 2015. December had a strong showing for industrial permits, however, with a $2 million upgrade to the sprinkler system at Olymel.
